A 10-day training program on Child Protection Case Management in Merged Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, organized by UNICEF and the government, equips professionals to address child protection concerns and establish District Child Protection Units.

In a significant move to safeguard the welfare of children in the Merged Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a 10-day training program on Child Protection Case Management was successfully held from April 25th to May 6th, 2024. The training, organized for the staff of nine newly established Child Protection Units (CPUs) in the region, aimed to equip professionals with essential skills for assessing and managing child protection concerns.

The Directorate of Social Welfare Merged Districts, in collaboration with UNICEF, prioritized addressing child protection issues, including those affecting children on the move and Afghan Refugees. The establishment of CPUs in all Merged Districts, each staffed with Child Protection Officers, Psychologists, and Social Workers, signifies a proactive approach towards ensuring the well-being of children.

The training program focused on providing comprehensive case management and referral services, including legal protection through the judicial system. UNICEF's Child Protection Specialist, Sohail Ahmad, emphasized the importance of sustaining these District Child Protection Units and advocated for decentralized child protection services within communities.

Dr. Wisam Hazeem, Programme Manager from UNICEF, commended the government of KP and SWD – MDs for their efforts in establishing and maintaining the District Child Protection Units. He highlighted the resilience of children and communities in the Merged Districts and expressed optimism in the government's commitment to child protection policies.

In conclusion, Muhammad Farooq, Additional Secretary of the Social Welfare Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lauded the dedication of participants and urged them to apply their newfound knowledge in safeguarding children's rights. The training program signifies a significant step towards ensuring a safer environment for children in the Merged Districts, reflecting the joint commitment of the government and UNICEF.
