Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has recently undertaken a significant operation in Sindh and Balochistan to combat gas theft, a prevalent issue leading to Unaccounted-for-Gas (UFG) losses. The company's proactive stance against unauthorized gas connections has resulted in the removal of 770 illegal domestic gas connections.

In Karachi, the Customer Relations Department's anti-theft teams successfully identified and dismantled 570 unauthorized connections in F. B. Area and Liaquatabad. Immediate action was taken to rectify the situation where residents had illicitly extended their gas lines, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Notably, in North Karachi, a bakery factory owner was caught red-handed using a heavy generator connected directly to the gas service line. A joint operation by Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations (SS&CGTO) and SSGC Police led to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against the offender, emphasizing the severity of gas theft consequences.

Similar crackdowns in Nawabshah and Larkana resulted in the removal of 25 unauthorized connections, with the confiscation of theft clamps and rubber pipes. Additionally, hotel proprietors in Nawabshah faced legal action for utilizing stolen gas for commercial purposes, highlighting the company's commitment to enforcing regulations.

In Balochistan, SSGC dismantled a total of 175 illegal connections in Quetta, Pishin, Kalat, and Mastung. Some connections were found to have counterfeit meters, promptly removed by anti-theft teams. Clamps and rubber pipes commonly used in gas pilferage were seized, underscoring the company's dedication to combatting gas theft in the region.

SSGC reaffirms its commitment to stringent surveillance and regular operations to prevent recurring instances of gas theft. The company emphasizes that gas theft significantly contributes to UFG losses and vows to prosecute offenders rigorously to address this issue effectively.

SSGC's recent operations in Sindh and Balochistan mark a crucial step in combating gas theft and reducing UFG losses. By taking decisive action against unauthorized connections and illegal gas usage, the company is working towards ensuring a fair and transparent distribution of gas resources. Such initiatives not only protect the integrity of the gas supply system but also promote accountability and responsible consumption practices among consumers.
